Make your directory profile work for you
Six small changes that help the right people find you, trust you and get in touch.
By Dumb Dope Editorial · Published October 8, 2026
Your Dumb Dope profile is free, it's yours, and you can change it any time. Here's how to make it do its job: helping the right people find you and reach out.
1. Pick roles people search for
Choose up to three roles that describe what someone would hire you for. Photographer and videographer will be found more often than a clever title only you use.
2. Say where you are
Your city helps local clients, galleries and event planners find you. If you work remotely too, say so in your bio.
3. Write a bio in plain words
Two or three sentences: what you make, who it's for and what you're proud of. Write it like you'd say it to someone at a show.
4. Show your best work, not all of it
Add up to eight gallery images. Lead with your strongest piece, keep the set consistent, and add short captions. Only upload work you made or have permission to share.
5. Tell people what you're open to
Turn on Open to work if you're taking jobs, and choose what you're available for: commissions, freelance projects, collaborations, bookings, workshops or speaking.
6. Make it easy to reach you
Add your portfolio, Instagram, shop or booking page, and keep Let people contact me switched on. Messages come to your email and your address stays private until you reply.
